The A Word....
By A word I mean Asthma! It's a word I hoped would never be associated with my children. Unfortunately, that is not the case right now. If you've been reading the blog you know that Charlie has been wheezy off and on since January. He has his very own nebulizer which he hates & runs from the moment I turn it on. John Christian has always been jealous of the one on one time spent with Charlie during the breathing treatments. Now, John Christian is getting those treatments he wanted so badly & he is starting to realize maybe they aren't so much fun after all!
After another week of coughing from 3AM until he wakes up & a week of trial breathing treatments I took John Christian back to the pediatrician. This coughing & lack of sleep has gone on for at least a month! I'd say he's allergic to this house which may be true, but he has been on allergy medicines off and on for more than half of his life in addition to going through short nightly coughing spells. According to the Pediatrician John Christian is probably like his brother & has asthma. He says the recent weather changing back and forth is what is aggravating it.
So..... We are now going to go full force for 5 days to treat John Christian's asthma.
This means 5 days of liquid steroids twice a day that the insurance won't yet cover, the pill singular, breathing treatments 3 times a day, & zyrtec (his allergy medicine). The poor kid will be so drugged up that I hope he'll remember his name! The hope is the cough will improve - go away in 72 hours. Then, we'll go back in 13 days to let the Dr know how things are going. Once the cough is gone & he is feeling better we will most likely put him on the preventive medication Charlie is on to keep the asthma from acting up. Supposedly by using the preventive meds or whatever they are it will keep the asthma from getting this bad again & maybe just maybe both boys will grow out of this before it's time to play sports!
From what I have read the Greenville - Spartanburg area & this area are 2 of the worst places in the country to live with these kinds of problems. Now the Army wins bonus points because eventually, they will move us away from here. I guess we'll be requesting some place cold since I don't think there are any Army Posts on the coast! Stinkin' Navy & Airforce they get all the good places! :)
