HAPPY 29th BIRTHDAY ZACH!!

Once again, Zach has spent another birthday in the field! We didn't think we'd get to speak to him much less see him. The boys & I tried to call him all morning & couldn't get through. Finally, this afternoon John Christian was able to talk to him on the phone & sing "Happy Birthday"!

At 5PM we were able to hear all of the artillery going off. I took the boys outside so that they could really hear their daddy's guns going off. John Christian gets very excited when he hears the artillery b/c he knows it means his daddy isn't too far away. It is a little sad though b/c sometimes he'll look around hoping that his daddy will come out of the woods in our backyard once the guns have stopped going off.

Tonight when we were outside listening (We can hear them in the house also, but outside is better) Zach called. He wanted the digital camera & video camera to film his guys shooting. The boys & I were thrilled that we'd get to see Zach in person! We jumped in the car & met him about 8 miles away! Of course knowing that he is that close, but we can't see him or talk to him really stinks sometimes especially for John Christian. We've explained to John Christian that only "Army" trucks can go into the woods where his daddy works & that Mommy's van just won't make it! Anyway, we figured 5 minutes was better than nothing!

I managed to snap a quick photo of John Christian & Zach. Poor Charlie fell asleep just before we got to Zach. Oh well, he probably would have freaked out b/c there wasn't even time to unstrap carseats & Charlie is such a daddy's boy - Maybe even more than John Christian if that is even possible!!

Zach looks different without his glasses. Some bad person stole his prescription sunglasses!! Ugh!

John Christian was happy to give his dad "Big Hugs" & "Big Kisses", but very sad that he couldn't get out & stay with his dad or go for a ride in his "Army Truck". On the way home he told me, "I'm very sad b/c daddy didn't get to come home in the car with us!" Poor little guy! He's had quite a time with Zach being gone so much of his short little life! Hopefully that will all change once we move closer to Zach's work! OH & I HAVEN'T MENTIONED THE GREATEST NEWS OF ALL: ZACH'S 2ND ALL EXPENSE PAID TRIP TO IRAQ THAT WAS SCHEDULED IN OCTOBER HAS BEEN CANCELLED AS OF LAST FRIDAY NIGHT!!! He may have to go somewhere in the spring or to Korea or Israel if they don't chill out, but for now we are focusing on the wonderfully precious gift of time we are about to be given to spend as a family! We could not be happier! I know I say it all the time, but REALLY - GOD IS GOOD!!

To Zach: I know you were in the field today, but I hope it was a wonderful happy birthday anyway!
We love you always,
Rebecca, John Christian, Charlie, & Molly (Elvis too)
