Oh John Christian......
I think John Christian is starting to realize that people come in all shapes, colors, & sizes. Being a "Military Brat" he has been exposed to a variety of people with different ethic background. He's known his colors for a year now, but I guess he's just figured out that people come in colors also.
I was watching something on tv & there was a man dancing. Here is our conversation:
John Christian: "Is that man not white?"
Mom: "Well, what do you think?"
John Christian puzzled: "He's a back guy, but he's wearing a white shirt?"
Mom: "You are exactly right."
End of conversation.
Yesterday afternoon Zach was actually home before dark. So, we took John Christian & Charlie to see the Disney movie "Cars". Great movie - a little long for the boys. Anyway, on the way home from the back seat John Christian announced, "I AM A BLACK MAN!" Zach didn't hear him, but I thought I did. Zach asked him to repeat himself.
So, he said the same thing again to which I responded, "No buddy, you're not black or a man. You are a pale little boy." To which he replied, "No, I'm a black man!"
"OK then, you're a black man", I said.
End of conversation.
If only we could all look at life through the eyes of a child! How wonderful to be so innocent & sweet! I wish I could keep the boys like this forever & prevent them from learning about the harshness of reality. Maybe these 2 blessings of mine will make a difference in the world! Let's hope so!
