First Day of Preschool 2 & 3 Year Olds
Charlie's birthday also marked another big day. It was the first day at a new preschool for both boys. They are going to the same school that I went to when I was John Christian's age. John Christian has always loved school, and was extremely excited about this new adventure. Charlie was blissfully unaware that he was about to go somewhere to play with other children, and his mom-mom wouldn't be there!
Both boys had a pretty good day at school. When we pulled up John Christian said, "You can just drop me off at the curb and let me out. I'll walk in by myself!" I know he's getting big, but that is a little too big for me!!
** I am adding this note b/c we are now in the 2nd week of school. My brave John Christian who has always loved school is very sad. He came home from his first day telling me that he had gotten germs from the other children and would be to ill to return ever again! He has cried and carried on like I have never seen. He refuses to get out of the car in the mornings and does not want to go to school. He says that there are a lot of wild boys in his class, and it is too crazy in there. Today, after days of him having fits I spoke with the director of the school about his behavior because I am really quite concerned. One of the things she said to me was that she knows it's hard, but I should ignore the behavior if possible. I don't mind ignoring Charlie's cries because he is little and this is all new. Plus, he stops immediately. John Christian on the other hand is a different story.
I expected something like this last year when his dad deployed, we moved, and he started a new school, but it never happened. I honestly think that he is miserable because he is the oldest child in the classroom and has already completed a 3 year old program. The director said she observed him today and that he seemed happy enough and that he didn't cry the rest of the day once he calmed down. She wants him to stay in the 3 year old class and thinks it's just a phase for him. She asked me to be patient and to try and drop him off outside and let a teacher bring him in. I tried this twice and the teacher had to carry him crying and begging to get down. So, with all this said I am really not happy about this situation. I realize the school is doing what they think is best and that they see crying 3 year olds all the time. BUT John Christian is almost 4 and now that he has started there he is doing things at home like asking for his blanket and asking all day if he has to go back to school begging me not to take him back. This is not my child. He loves school and playing with other children. He just likes things to be calm and structured. Anyway, just pray this will either get better in a day or 2 or that they will try him in another class. Otherwise I'm going to have to turn into one of those crazy parents who people like to talk about. We'll see!
Charlie wanted to take his tractor to school.
It rode with him all the way there in the carseat!

This school is very specific about "tote bags". The children are not allowed to bring backpacks and all bags must have open tops without zippers or buttons. I had to do some searching, but finally found these on a website called Take A Stroll. They hand painted these bags with the boys names on them. I also told them what color hair and what subject to put on the book. The artist took it from there. I think they turned out great!
