Happy Valentine's Day 2007

Wednesday, February 14, 2007
I mentioned earlier that John Christian is into Superman these days. I have been letting him watch the old school super heroes cartoons that my brother John and I used to watch. I wasn't sure if I was ready for him to be in this super hero phase because he is still so young, but then I realized that he is a little boy and that is just what little boys do. So, if he wants to be Superman who am I to stop his little imagination.

Well, today I got a rare phone call from his preschool teacher, Miss Patty. She adores John Christian and he almost never gets into trouble. At first I panicked that something was wrong, but Miss Patty quickly explained that there was just a debate about a Spiderman Umbrella and who it's owner was. She said another little boy was very upset and said it was his umbrella, but that John Christian was insistent that it was his. She said John Christian went so far as to cry and tell her it was ok to call me because it really was his. He had her convinced that it just might be his umbrella and not the other little boy's. When I told her that it was really not our umbrella she said that just before we spoke he finally confessed that it wasn't his, but that she wanted to talk to me just to make sure.

I told her that I had found the umbrella on the floor by the classroom door and picked it up so no one would step on it. My only thoughts were that he either saw me pick it up and thought it really was mine or he just plain made the whole thing up because he wanted it so darn bad. Later, I had a long talk with him about it and other things because she said he just wasn't a good listener today. He told me, "I just really wanted that umbrella to be mine." We had a talk about this as well. Hopefully, this is not a sign of things to come and that he has learned a lesson.... for now anyway. I've got to give him credit though because he really is a good little actor. So, if anyone reading this is a talent agent give us a call! I see an Oscar in his future..... or maybe years of being grounded! :)

Finally, the other thing I wanted to say is that the Bible word this week is OBEY. Miss Patty asked John Christian if he obeyed his mommy to which he replied, "No". She asked him if he knew what obey meant and gave him the example, "If Mommy asks you to brush your teeth do you do it?" He answered, "No, only my daddy makes me brush my teeth!" I told her this is because Zach puts him to bed at night, but now I wonder if she thinks I am just a lazy mom. :) Seriously, I know she doesn't, but maybe this is a story for Parent's magazine's "How Embarrassing!"

Notice John Christian is wearing his white undershirt. He insisted that he was hot and refused to wear the shirt that I had nicely ironed for him knowing there would be photos.
