John Christian
(I tried to post this yesterday June 7, but the blog was having issues!)
When John Christian woke up this morning he went into the kitchen and slyly stated, "I need fruit snacks because I'm sad!" He comes up with the funniest reasons why he should get special treats! I reminded him that we don't eat those for breakfast, but he told me again, "But I'm sad!" I asked him why he was sad & I got his favorite new answer of "I don't know." Of course I'm sure if he is sad he has every reason since Zach has been in the field for the good part of four weeks & when he's not in the field he leaves at 5AM & doesn't return until 7PM. To not even be 3 years old yet he's had a lot of stuff to deal with & I think he handles it better than some adults would!

John Christian has been an awesome little boy this week. I made him a sticker chart with pictures of things that he does around the house like putting clothes in the laundry hamper, setting the table, putting dishes in the dishwasher, picking up toys & sharing with Charlie. He's a little young, but I'm hoping by starting early he'll learn a little bit about becoming responsible & helping out. I need to make my own chart to remind me to be consistent in my parenting, but that's a whole other blog!! :) Anyway, he has been a great helper, despite the occasional "accidents" when he pushes or kicks Charlie over. I am very proud of him!
Here are some examples of what he does to help!
John Christian has a pet Beta Fish named Elvis. He has been very good about reminding us to let him feed her for the past year or more. Since he's good about feeding her I thought he'd like to learn how to take care of Molly. In the mornings he gets Molly's bowl, opens the door & goes into the garage, puts in a scoop of dog food, puts the bowl back in the stand, & goes & lets Molly out of her kennel so that she can eat. (I put her in her kennel so that he can do this without her knocking him over.) He also does this at dinner time. Plus, he has learned how to open the back door & tells her to go out & potty. Molly doesn't always listen, but eventually she'll learn that he controls the food & she'll be heeling at his side in no time! :)
As a special reward for their good behavior (John Christian's listed above & Charlie for sleeping!) we went to Chuck E Cheeses for some pizza & fun! My grandmother sends me wonderful coupons that I always save for these special trips & we really appreciate them!!
Anyway, today something happened at Chuck E Cheese & our order along with most everyone else's got screwed up. It took them an hour to realize the paper in the kitchen that prints out orders was not working! How they didn't notice they weren't making any pizzas during the lunch rush is beyond me! Needless to say it was nearly 1PM and I was on my way to find out what was going on with the pizza when I turned around & John Christian was sitting at someone else's table eating what was left of their pizza! I tried hard not to laugh because I didn't want to make him feel bad. The table was near ours & we had been checking the whole time to see if our pizza had arrived. The poor child was starving & I guess he thought our pizza had finally arrived.
Luckily, the table belong to what looked like a set of grandparents & a great-grandmother who had been smiling & waving at the boys the whole time we were there. One of the women was very kind & put the pizza on a napkin & told us that it was ok. I apologized & offered our pizza if it would ever arrive! To make matters worse when the lady put it on the napkin & handed it to John Christian as he was getting out of the booth it fell on the ground. John Christian looked devastated! So, I just picked it up, blew it off, & handed it back to him! Those ladies must have thought we were homeless or something! What a day!!

Zach made it home tonight around 7PM after being gone since Sunday night. John Christian ran outside & greeted his dad with "Hey Zach, this train is like Trevor the Traction Engine" or something about one of his trains.
