Taking Time To Smell The Roses!
I know that I have written about some rotten, but funny things that John Christian has done. So, I'd like to write about one of the greatest gifts he has given me. He reminds me constantly that nothing is more important than time spent with my family. You know that old saying, "Take the time to smell the roses!" Well, John Christian takes that to heart. It doesn't matter where we go or what kind of rush I am in. He always stops whenever he sees flowers to either smell them, pick one, or just to admire them. Often I am in an extreme hurry when he does this. At first it annoyed me, but then, I realized it's better to be late then to go through life so fast that you forget to enjoy the little things!! Now when he does it I just stop, watch him, and enjoy the moment! I know that all too fast he will be grown up. I just hope he never forgets to take the time to "smell the roses!"
With that said Zach had Monday off & I got a rare treat of going to the commissary (grocery store) alone!! For those of you who are reading this with children you know that this is a huge deal! The commissary is connected to a little store called the PX which is like a mini Walmart. There are also little shops in the hall along the way. After the commissary I decided to wander through the building b/c the children weren't with me & I hoped one of the places in the food court was open b/c I didn't feel like fixing lunch for everyone. On the way to the food court I passed the little flower shop that I've walked by a million times before. Sitting out front was a cart of carnations, roses, and other flowers. I thought of John Christian & I stopped leaned into the flowers and took in a deep breath. The flowers smelled wonderful. Most everything in the food court was closed for Labor Day. So, on the way back I went the long way to the car & stopped again to smell the flowers. I don't think I'll ever be able to see flowers now without stopping to admire them & think about my precious John Christian! Thanks buddy!
