Zach dropped Charlie on his head!
Yes, you read the title correctly! I will tell you now that Charlie is ok, but we had quite the scare this morning with the littlest guy. Zach carried Charlie with him when he went out to his truck to get something. Zach held Charlie with one arm & used the other to reach into the truck. Charlie being Charlie got distracted by something, arched his back, & pushed away from Zach. Zach lost his grip on Charlie. Charlie hit his head on the arm rest of the truck's door, then the door, then flipped & landed on his right side on the ground. I was inside cooking lunch & heard him screaming as Zach brought him into the house. Honestly, I don't know who was more scared Zach or Charlie?
I tried to reassure Zach b/c he has done this to me several times & I have almost dropped him myself. I took Charlie from Zach & tried to calm him. He'd get comfortable, but then I would move a little & he would cry. It took a little while, but he did catch his breath & stop crying. Poor little guy was wheezing pretty good. I didn't know if I should worry about his breathing, his head, or his arm. After a few minutes of on off crying he nodded off to sleep. I didn't think sleep was a good idea for someone who just had a bad fall, but at the same time he hadn't had much of a morning nap either. He'd cry a little & then nod off to sleep. After about 15 minutes I noticed some red marks and a small bump on the back right side of his little head. We decided it was better to be safe then sorry. So, we dropped John Christian off at our neighbor Jamia's house & off to the Emergency room we went on this beautiful Sunday morning.
It was another fun adventure to the ER. There was a little girl there about 9 years old who was covered in blood from a gash in the center of her forehead. It turns out her 12 year old sister hit her in the head with a golf club. The other thing we saw as we were waiting in the ER was a car pulled up & ran into the back of a parked police car. Then, they drove away without saying a word to anyone. I always thought my favorite tv show ER was a little over the top, but now I'm beginning to think it's pretty realistic!
While we were at the ER Charlie got a CT Scan. This was not fun! They velcroed him down like he was in a little straight jacket & strapped his head down to keep him from moving. Poor little guy screamed & hypervenilated. He was not a happy camper & I don't blame him. The radiologist who did the CT was also a little weird and didn't make the situation any better. I was told later that I was lucky b/c usually they sedate children that age. After the CT Charlie finally calmed down and fell asleep only to be woken up in another xray room. They xrayed his shoulder to make sure everything was still in the right place. The radiologist that did his shoulder xray was very nice & Charlie hardly cried. He said when his son was that age he jumped out of his wife's arm & broke his leg in 2 places. That made me feel a little better!
After nearly 3 hours the doctor came and checked Charlie. He let us know that his CT Scan & Xray were normal & that Charlie would be ok. We were told we could go home, but told to watch him for things like vomiting. Right! If that is the case he's had a concussion since birth! That might explain a lot! :) Anyway, we're both just really glad Charlie is ok for today! Football, baseball, soccer, & fights with John Christian will be here before we know it! I'm sure there will be many more trips to the ER in the future. Thank goodness for health insurance!
